Big Climate Connection
A spiritual approach to caring for our environment?
How spirituality could relate to sustainability, and to the urgent need to respond to climate change and peak oil, will be the subject of an evening seminar hosted by Kingston Council.
The free event on 28 October will discuss whether our faith or beliefs can motivate us to make changes, together, towards a sustainable way of life which would enable individuals, communities and the natural world to flourish.
Speakers booked are Dr Laurie Michaelis Co-ordinator of Living Witness: Quakers for Sustainability Dr Muzammal Hussain Founder of ‘Wisdom in Nature’ chaired by the Leader of the Council Councillor Derek Osbourne
As well as guest speakers from different faith stances, there will also be displays on sustainable living, films, free refreshments and the chance for group discussions using inspirational ideas from round the world on living in harmony with our environment.
Anyone - of any faith or belief, or none at all - is welcome to attend the free event. However there will be a limited capacity, so please book your place as soon as possible.
The Faith and the Environment seminar is being organised by Kingston Inter Faith Forum in collaboration with Transition Town Kingston and the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, and will be chaired by the Leader of the Council, Derek Osbourne.

From The Ground Up
Transition Town Kingston is forging ahead and the Food Group has a new initative called "From the Ground Up". The Environment Centre will be hosting this box scheme to make available fresh organic vegetables and fruit sourced to be as locally grown as possible. The scheme will be run by volunteers who are passionate about eating healthier food, supporting sustainable farming practices and reducing food miles. And the prices are cheaper than supermarket organic supplies. You can visit the From the Ground Up and find out more.
This is one of many initatives of the TTK Food Group whose focus is to raise awareness of the impact of climate change and promote eco-friendly production.
Transition Town Kingston - Launch Party
A great local initiative the Transition Town movement has really caught on. Tackling the twin problems of peak oil and climate change the town will be working towards its own energy descent plan. This is a genuine grass roots movement started by communities for communities. Here after two years of planning the big launch is set to energise and inspire the people of the lovely borough of Kingston Upon Thames. Its happening on Saturday 17th April from 5pm in a large but little known venue- Kingston Working Mens Club which you will find on the Old London Road in Kingston Town Centre. Yes, its a party. Try not to miss it.
Our Kingston Our Future - Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 March
Hilary says: Thanks to everyone for pitching in at the weekend. You all just got on with it – it was great! I think we all did a great job of looking after our participants and engaging lots of other Kingston people. We had more than 75 people expressing an interest in knowing more about Transition Town Kingston and a great deal of people now know a little bit about what we’re trying to do. Most importantly, we have involved a wide spectrum of the Kingston Community in an event that canvassed their views about Kingston past, present and future and we have collected their ideas to take forward together. We got some great feedback: people really enjoyed the art work, meeting other people and expressing their views. It’s what it’s all about!
Do feed back your thoughts about the event. And of course it’s the Big Launch Party next.
